I need to know if you two have spoken. He's going to be held accountable for someone's murder [and Rhade is very perplexed by this, because Ben doesn't lie], and he's been concerned with how you were going to react when you spoke to him. Did he seem in control of himself?

Would it be possible for you to examine and speak with Ben? Review him for outside influences? Fugue states? I don't believe he is lying to me when he says he was in his room, but considering this ship...

Who here is a competent detective or is experience with forensics, or alternately has an inmate you would trust to assist in an investigation? [He wants to be careful and not get Ben into more trouble.]

I don't have experience with any of that, but Bruce Wayne's a friend of mine and I'm volunteering him.

[Determined face.]

Is this about what I think it is?

Yes. Cursory evidence points to the likelihood that my inmate murdered Dr. Robert Kozak.

But I had a discussion with Ben, and we identified positively that Dr. Kozak is no threat to him. Also he claims that he was in his room. He doesn't lie to me, but there was blood around his doorknob and a tooth there. So either he doesn't recall what he did, or it was put there some other way. [Which Dylan suggested to him.]

I'll take any help I can get. I have to monitor Ben myself so that people don't start insulting him as a loose cannon again, so I can't investigate.

You know him best, you get to make the call, but I don't think that he'd lie about something like this. He doesn't hide what he's done, why would he lie now?

If you need help monitoring him, if you trust me to help, I will. I'd protect him with my life.

It wouldn't hurt. Currently Dylan and his inmate are assisting me [Rhade actually has a lot of confidence in inmates, having been one] and we're on a three person rotation. A fourth wouldn't go amiss. Basically someone to accompany him and stand guard at doors, so his whereabouts can accounted for until we're sure he's not being targeted or manipulated.

I don't want to put him in Zero. Not when I can't be sure.

[He thinks, though.] If you want to help with the investigation, or Bruce does, Rorschach and Barbara Gordon have both offered. Doyle, the one who had the vision, can also be of help I believe.

I'll check with mine. He might be able to help, too. Ben trusts me, though, I think, so just me might be better.

Don't. If somebody framed him - [He cuts himself off, feeling vicious. Not gonna go down that road.]

I talked to Doyle. I'll talk to the other two. Get this figured out.

And here he seems to doubt that he has friends, sometimes.

I will always be his friend. I don't care if I have to tell him a hundred times.

See if you can find someone with enhanced senses to smell the scene, or an acute scanner. Either could be a considerable help.

I couldn't think of anyone that hated Ben enough that they would kill someone to frame him, or even anyone that hated Kozak enough to kill him.

But I do recall someone being attracted to him for a killing spree he went on before, when he was trying to bait me into killing him permanently. One where he did remove someone's teeth.

I've passed it along to Barbara and Bruce.

I think she would have bragged if she had been responsible. However, she might at least have some ideas if she told anyone about his technique.

I'll have someone check with her.
